Reflective Media Resources

The core message of Reflective Media Productions can be simplified into four foundational steps that we believe all individuals must take to truly find the hope and healing found only in Jesus Christ.

Step 1 - Surrender To Him

The first step is to surrender to Christ. To recognize that we are not only sinners in need of a savior, but also enemies of God. Romans 5:10-11 says

"For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation."

Salvation is the unearned gift from God to anyone who places their full trust in the completed work of Christ's death on the cross. The only requirement for eternal life is trusting Christ's substitutionary atonement for our sin and once a person is saved they can never lose it.

Jesus said in John 3:14-18 "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

If you’ve stopped and recognized that nothing you could do or say could ever undo your bad thoughts, desires, actions or guilt and that you need Jesus to save you and make you a new creation once and for all, then you are ready to make the most important decision you’ll ever face. You simply must trust Him and ask Him to save you. In that moment you are made new! You’ve been born again into the family of God!

This is the first and most important step on the path to hope and healing. There is much more ahead of you on your journey, but you can rest in the peace of knowing you are His child and you’ve received eternal life. From now on, nothing can separate you from God (Romans 8).

Step 2 - Renew Your Mind

While your position before God and birth into His family is a once and for all moment, the transformation of our thoughts and desires is a life-long process called "sanctification." In the Bible this journey of transformation is often symbolized as “our walk.”

“for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light” Ephesians 5:8

Knowing God’s word is critical for the renewing of our minds, being able to spot lies or miss interpretations (2 Tim 2:15, 2 Timothy 4:2), and being able to share our faith (1 Peter 3:15). But, did you know there was a study in 2009 that revealed that those who read the Bible four days a week or more experienced:

• Sex outside of marriage drops 68%
• Feeling spiritually stagnant drops 60%
• Viewing pornography drops 61%
• Sharing your faith jumps 200%

• Feeling lonely drops 30%
• Anger issues drop 32%
• Bitterness in relationships drops 40%
• Alcoholism drops 57%

So, practically, how do we change our thoughts and desires? Well, we don’t, God’s Spirit inside us does. But, what we can do, and what we’re called to do, is fill our mind with His thoughts. Here are some practical steps to do that:

Pray - Talk to Him! He wants to hear from you. Ask God to reveal Himself through His word (the Bible).

Read - Set aside time to read His word (the Bible) every day. This can be just a few minutes or hours. It’s up to you and your availability.

Dive - Dive into studies to help you better what you’re reading

It can be hard to know where to start with studying the Bible. Here are some resources to help you!

If you’re new to the faith, we would recommend starting with the gospel of John, Romans, and Ephesians. Once you’ve read through those, here are some resources to help get into the Word and studies to help you understand it. If you’re ready to start being in God’s word daily start with our 90-day reading plan through the New Testament.

RMP CHURCH GUIDE

Finding a church can be a daunting task and is deeply personal. But if you feel a bit lost in finding a good one, we have a few suggestions and considerations that we hope are helpful.

WHAT DENOMINATION?

There are many wonderful churches of all sorts of denominations that love the Lord and are teaching His word faithfully. But what's more important than the name above the door is what the church actually believes and teaches. We would encourage you when considering a new church to visit their website and thoroughly read their statement of faith.

However, if you aren't even sure where to start, RMP would generally recommend looking for a Bible Church in your area. Bible Churches are non-denominational and normally have a heavy emphasis on teaching the Bible verses by verse.

WHY LOOK FOR A BIBLE CENTERED CHURCH?

The Bible is God's word. It's the lighthouse calling us back to shore when we wonder from truth. That's true of individuals and even of churches too. Here's few points to consider:

LETTERS OF CORRECTION

Most of the books of the New Testament are letters from the Apostles attempting to correct the errors made by the various churches they had established. In the last book of the Bible, Jesus himself dictates letters to seven churches encouraging them in what they were doing well and admonishing them where they had wondered from the truth. If the churches of the 1st century had wandered away from the words of Jesus and the teachings of the apostles, so can the churches of the 21st century. In short, the Bible is the anchor that keeps a church from drifting away from the truth.

GOD’S WORD IS THE STANDARD FOR TRUTH

The word of God (the Bible) is the ultimate reference for truth! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says:

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
- 2 Timothy 3:16-17

EVEN THE APOSTLES WERE MEASURED BY THE WORD

In Acts 17:10-11, the Bible commends a group of believers for comparing the message of Paul the apostle to the written scriptures to make sure what he said was true. If the apostle Paul should be checked, then everyone should be checked against God's word.

The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” - Acts 17:10-11

NO PERFECT CHURCHES

All churches are made up of flawed, broken, and sinful people who are just as much in need of grace as you or I. A key part of the Church’s role in a Christian’s life is to bear with one another and show love, even in the midst of conflict or pain. We all need grace. No church is perfect, but look for one with Biblical beliefs and healthy leadership.

GROUP RECOVERY

As we have researched and explored the many facets of addiction and trauma recovery we have seen the unparalleled power of healing together in a group. There are many great ones out there, but our favorite is Re:generation Recovery (or ReGen). It is a Christ centered 12-step recovery program with a heavy emphasis on Biblical discipleship. They have many active groups all over the United States.

Step 4 - Step Out On Mission

God loves you so much and He has a unique mission for all of us!

That mission could be to start a ministry that feeds thousands of homeless or it could be raising the next generation in your home in the ways of the Lord or it could be to reach the lost in a country far away or it could be simply showing up on Monday to your job and quietly showing the love of Christ to your office. Our mission is unique to us and it can change as the seasons change in our lives.

If you feel a particular pull in a certain direction or are simply ready for the next chapter, here's a few prayer suggestions to help you:

ASK HIM!

If you want to know what He has for you, ask Him to reveal it to you! Talk to Him! Your Father wants to know your heart.

TIMING

Pray for clarity in the timing. Often we find ourselves anxious for change when the Lord may be calling us to wait.

PURITY

Ask Him to purify your heart and let His motives be yours.

VOICES

Pray that He would give you discernment in sifting through all the advice and opinions of others. Seek out the wisdom of those older than you who have experience and a proven track record with what you're dealing with.

If you've found this helpful or need prayer, we'd love to hear from you!
